Removing Fax Numbers
If you have received an
unwanted fax you should contact the party that sent the fax
directly to request that they not contact you again. FaxFetch
Software does not actually transmit faxes.
If you would like to prevent
your fax number from being extracted by software such as FaxFetch,
please read the following:
Most extraction software
(including FaxFetch) locates fax numbers on web pages by searching
for the word "fax" or "fx" and looking to
see if that word is followed by a valid phone number.
You can prevent the detection
of the "fax" keyword (and therefore prevent extraction
of your fax number) in one of two ways:
- Convert the word "Fax"
or your fax number to a graphic.
- Replace the letters
"Fax" in your html code with their ASCII conversions.
Here are the conversions:
f = f
a = a
x = x
F = F
A = ;A
X = ;X
So, entering "fax"
in your html document will appear as "fax" to your
visitors, but extraction software will not recognize it.
"fax"
= fax
"fx" = fx
"FAX" = FAX
For other ASCII conversions,
see www.ccmr.cornell.edu/helpful_data/ascii2.html
If you have any questions,
concerns, or would like for us to do the ASCII conversion for
